I was born and raised in Mexico City. Since I was a kid I developed a great passion cooking, especially Mexican Food. My mom learned a lot of delicious traditional family recipes from my Grandmother and eventually, I acquired that knowledge. Since then I realized that the key to preparing delicious foods is the use of quality, natural and fresh ingredients as well as the passion for cooking traditional the Mexican food.
When I moved to Canada in 2003, looking for delicious, quality, natural Mexican Food became a challenge but at the same time, I saw a potential opportunity to elaborate and offer those products here in Canada. For different reasons I did not follow that path but it always was in my mind. As I continue my life in Canada, I realized that a great number of Canadians also like Mexican Food, but for them, like me, it was hard to find quality Mexican food, made with natural and fresh ingredients. People that have had the opportunity to visit Mexico told me that the “Corn Tortillas" found in the stores do not taste like the ones they tried in Mexico. At the same time, many of the people that I have talked have expressed their concern of companies using Genetically Modified, no- Organic Corn in order to produce cheap and poor quality Mexican Corn products, such as the "Tortillas and "Corn Chips". In addition, more and more Canadians are avoiding gluten in their diet, looking for gluten-free alternatives, this is where Mexican Corn Products fit very well because corn is gluten-free.
According to the Canada Organic Trade Association, Canadians are demanding more organic products and they are understanding more and more the health value of those products. Just as an information, data shows that the organic market is rapidly expanding, two in three Canadian (66%) are spending at least some of their weekly budget in organic products up 10 points from 56% in 2016.
So, with all this information and my passion and knowledge for cooking quality Mexican food, I decided it was time to offer Mexican Products to the Canadian community with the features that they are looking for. That’s how I got inspired to create Maxi Foods in January 2017.
In June 2017 I started offering my products at couple Farmers Markets and special events around Airdrie and Calgary area. The acceptance of my products was a great success, people love them.
